Vestal Corporation Implements BIM Initiative

 (St. Louis) December 2007

Richard Vestal, PE and LEED AP, President and Founder of Vestal Corporation, has announced that the firm has implemented a full multi-discipline 3-D/BIM strategy, for their engineering and architectural practice, which based on the latest and most advanced Building and Information Modeling (BIM) platform:  Revit® Architecture, Revit® Structure, and Revit® Mechanical Electrical and Plumbing (MEP).

Mr. Vestal stated, “This technology, although expensive, is the foundation of the most economically justifiable and technically realizable design-process revolution in the Architectural, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry in the past 20-25 years; since computer aided drafting (CAD) PC’s were first introduced into architect/engineer offices.  He went on to say that the reason Revit® is so unique is that, “Revit® has program features such as 1) Parametric Components which eliminate much of the drafting process, 2) Bidirectional Associativity which improves both quality and productivity, 3) Digital Interfaces which facilitate integration with equally powerful third-party engineering analysis, cost estimating, scheduling and construction product specifying software applications that we are already using.  The bottom line is, Revit® and the other integrated PC-based programs allow us to do what engineers and architects have never been able to do before:  Work the Way We Think!”

James Huang has assumed the position of BIM/IT Director to lead this area at Vestal Corporation.  Mr. Huang, is a 1976 BS Architecture graduate of National Cheng Kung University Taiwan and 1981 MS Architecture graduate of the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University Institute of Building Sciences; where he was involved in advanced studies during the inception of CAD and BIM.  He is currently a member of the St. Louis Chapter US Green Building Council.  During the past 20 years, Mr. Huang has managed the largest and most advanced CAD installations for a few of the top engineering and architectural design-build firms in the Region.  He is also exceptional in his own work with 3-D architectural renderings, animations, and energy simulations.  Mr. Huang said, “I am excited to be with Vestal Corporation.  Revit® is a substantial addition to the AutoCAD 3D Architectural Desktop and Building Systems (MEP), and Bentley MicroStation V8 that have been our drafting tools of choice here for several years. Everyone at here at Vestal Corporation is excited to be involved with such a progressive company and with such advanced architectural and engineering analysis and design production systems.  These new systems, our technical experience and our talented staff definitely bring more value to our clients.”

Vestal Corporation provides integrated professional engineering, architecture and construction consulting services for public entities and for private facilities across many industries.
